Roma has not been receiving parenteral nutrition for a month and a half. He rarely goes out for walks and does not play football because he lacks the strength. Instead of meeting with his classmates, he studies at home, where his favourite subjects, history and English, open up distant worlds for him.
The boy's digestive problems began at birth, and treatment brought only temporary improvement. In the summer of 2015, Roma was admitted to intensive care with acute abdominal pain. The child underwent emergency surgery. Only 12 cm of the small intestine, which is responsible for the absorption of nutrients, could be saved.
Since then, Roman has had a deficiency of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Every month, he receives parenteral nutrition for ten days: special mixtures of Nutriflex Lipid and Smofilipid, Ringer's and Sterofundin solutions containing electrolytes are administered intravenously. In addition to regular food, the boy drinks a mixture called Modulen.
To support his digestive system, Roman takes Ukrliv, Creon, Heptral, Vikasol, and Nolpaza. To prevent harmful microbes from multiplying in his intestines, he takes the antibiotic Alfa Normix. He also needs vitamins, minerals, and medications to strengthen his immune system.
Every contribution you make is a step towards giving this boy the strength to learn, dream, and grow!
