Sensors that save lives
In Ukraine, more and more babies are born prematurely. This year, more than 16,000 babies were born, weighing from 500 grams to 1 kilogram! Whether these children will survive depends on the availability of special equipment in the clinics. Therefore, CF "Svichado" decided to help the intensive care unit of the Mariupol territorial medical association of child and woman health, where a large number of premature babies are nursed. Hospitals constantly need sensors to monitor the pulse and oxygen saturation of children.
A pulse oximeter is a medical device that fully controls the state of the child when nursing. He has a special sensor that attaches to the baby and keeps track of how many percents of the blood is saturated with oxygen. A doctor or nurse, with such data, can adjust the percentage of oxygen that is fed to the child, depending on the individual needs of each child.
Still very important is that premature babies often experience breathing (apnea). They can be physiological, due to immaturity, and pathological. This condition can be fatal, and with the pulse oximeter signal, breathing delay can be recognized immediately and take the necessary measures to allow the child to start breathing again. In addition, the pulse oximeter shows the child's heart rate, just extremely important in nursing preterm infants. After all, immature children often have arrhythmias (interruptions in the heart), which are very difficult to diagnose without monitoring. That is, it is impossible to care for a premature baby without observing extremely important indicators, such as oxygen saturation and heart rate.
It is these special pulse oximetry sensors that need to be purchased in a Ukrainian hospital, where every day the lives of small Ukrainian people are saved.
