Alisa has been living in ICU since her birth. She was born almost without intestines, and is “fed” intravenously. Her neighbours – twins Kira and Kirill – weighed just 800 g each at birth. Due to immaturity of gastrointestinal tract, they need parenteral feeding (intravenous feeding) too. The unit always has such children. Their fragile life depends not only on the doctor’s skills and modern equipment, but also on the availability of vials with amino acids and lipids, which are sorely lacking in the ICU. Help feed the kids!

Thanks to modern technologies it is possible to increase the survival rate of premature infants, especially newborns with an extremely low weight – starting from 500 g. And parenteral feeding plays an important role in developmental care of these babies as tiny as an adult’s palm. The need of a little organism for proteins is satisfied with amino acids of the drug called Aminoven. And the Smoflipid lipid emulsion is the main source of energy, essential fat acids and omega-3-unsaturated acids. These are the only drugs, registered in Ukraine, that are adapted for premature babies and newborns.

About twenty babies are under developmental care in ICUs and neonatal resuscitation units of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Children’s Hospital every month. Intravenous feeding is the only way of receiving nutrients for many of them from their first days of life. Alisa has two vials with solutions for lunch and dinner, and she must keep to this diet to gain weight to survive and undergo surgery. And the task of Kira and Kirill is to escape negative consequences of premature birth. And it is natural that these babies breathe, develop and want to live. And they do not know that there is not enough Aminoven for all the children, and Smoflipid is not on the list of public procurement.

The unit needs 150 vials of Aminoven and 100 vials of Smoflipid for half a year, amounting to 85 300 UAH. Help feed the babies, give them a chance to have a healthy future!
