New life for people and things

It was summer 2014. Hundreds of women who escaped from the shelling with children in their arms went to the Center for IDPs, organized by the Charitable Foundation Pomogaem in a rural school near the Dnieper, and hundreds of Dnipro residents brought food, clothes, shoes, utensils to the fund itself – so that at least something support fellow citizens. The fund had a humanitarian warehouse before that, but it was in 2014 that it had to be moved to a more spacious premises of 100 m² on st. Troitskaya, 15.

On its shelves there is always a place for sheets and diapers, pants and shirts unnecessary to the previous owners, and a warehouse employee helps things to find caring owners and a new life. However, in order for it to continue to work, monthly funds are needed to pay rent, utilities, administrator labor and gasoline – large quantities of things are regularly brought to and from the warehouse.

Large and low-income parents, single mothers of babies, families with people with disabilities, families affected by fire, and other needy people can choose clothes, shoes, toys, household utensils there. Now the warehouse does not give out food, but it is always filled with things, and 3 days a week - people who choose clothes and shoes for themselves and their children for the next season.

In 2020, the warehouse produced 26 tons of items for 486 families. Centers of social services from different districts of Dnipro and the region, charitable foundations and public organizations, a psychiatric hospital, a women's prison and other institutions also receive things for their wards. The inhabitants of the region need the warehouse: thanks to it, children and adults who have found themselves in a difficult material situation are not afraid to be without clothes and shoes by the next season, and things acquire a second life. However, in order to maintain a warehouse, it takes a little more than UAH 20,000 per month to pay rent, utilities, and administrator's labor.
