Unfortunately, there are more and more children who are born prematurely. They come to life with tiny little lungs but want to breathe fully. It is vitally important to monitor the heartbeat rate of the prematurely born child since it is very weak and needs to be controlled constantly. The usual medical equipment does not suit such little patients. Special, very sensitive heart rate and oxygen saturation sensors for newborns are needed for  for department of intensive care of newborns of the Mykolayiv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital.

They are indispensable in the process of nursing preterm infants, because of the immaturity of the organisms of such children they very often suffer from disorders of these functions, up to the cessation of breathing and heart. Monitoring (control) of these functions is possible with the help of pulse oximeter. The modern day technology allows saving lives and health of the tiniest patients. Quality of medical care is determined by the efficiency and safety of all technologies.

These are important sensors that are attached to a child and track the percentage of blood that is oxygenated. The doctor or nurse, having such data, can adjust the percentage of oxygen that is fed to the child, depending on the individual needs of each child. Another very important thing is that premature baby often happen to hold their breath (apnea). This can be physiological, due to immaturity, and pathological. This condition can be fatal, and with the help of a pulse oximeter signal, the breath can be recognized immediately and the necessary measures can be taken so that the child begins to breathe again.

In addition, the pulse oximeter shows the child’s heart rate, which is simply extremely important in nursing of premature babies. Immature children often have arrhythmias (interruptions in the work of the heart) that are very difficult to diagnose without monitoring.

Due to this project, it will be possible to buy 21 pulsoximetry sensors for  for department of intensive care of newborns of the Mykolayiv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital!
