Roman Torgovitsky: I'm running to thank the hero

On the Kyiv Half Marathon on the 9th of April, I will be running for the dream of a hero of Aleksey Avanesian.

In Ukraine, the war caught up with Oleksii a second time. When a young Armenian boy was seven years old, the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan was beginning. Oleksii's parents decided to flee from Nagorno-Karabakh as far as possible from the war. Then they could not imagine that through the years their son himself will take arms: "My whole life is connected with Ukraine. This is my Homeland. And I could not protect her".

When the war in eastern Ukraine started he joined army – he could not stay away. He fought in the 55th artillery brigade, was wounded in the fighting near Ilovaisk during the shelling Oleksii lost his leg. But his life did not end there. In the hospital, he met his future wife, the volunteer Elena. Now together they make plans and dream. The only thing missing from our hero – a prosthesis that would allow Oleksii to play sports.

This year as part of Kyiv Half Marathon on April 9 we will have charity 2K run "VICTORS". Veterans with disabilities, Paralympic athletes and everyone else who wants to help raise funds for an athletic prosthesis for veteran Oleksii Avanesian. 

So this is our opportunity to thank Ukraine hero, Oleksii Avanesian, and help him with his dream – to run and play basketball. Your hryvnia this is priceless.

I plan to raise at a charity marathon 15 000 UAH.
