My name is Alexander Gotsulyak. I am a pediatric surgeon. For six years I have been studying congenital heart defects in children. Since 2019, I have been treating children with heart development anomalies. I can say with confidence that very young patients with absolutely non-childlike illnesses are admitted to intensive care every day. The age category of patients starts from the tiniest and most defenseless - newborn babies and ends with almost adult adolescents. All these children are united by one diagnosis - congenital heart disease. It is terrible not only for patients and their parents, but also for many doctors who fearfully react to such an inscription in the medical history.
Over the past 20 years, surgery for congenital heart defects has made great strides forward. It became possible to carry out many operations through a small access in the armpit. Some corrections of heart anomalies are performed at all through a puncture of the vessel in the groin area. They are called endovascular interventions. These operations are carried out exclusively under the supervision of an X-ray machine. In some cases, they are diagnostic, which make it possible to more clearly and effectively select a further strategy for treating a child. These operations are strictly performed in special protective X-ray clothing, which ensures the safety of the medical staff, and the high quality of its manufacture allows you to comfortably perform medical procedures.
As part of the global initiative “Generous Tuesday 2020” and with the support of the “Noviy Svit Odesa” charity fund, I want to raise some funds for the purchase of X-ray protective clothing for medical staff who are fighting for healthy children's hearts every day. Therefore, I appeal to everyone who has personally met the problem of congenital heart disease, who heard about it from friends or from other sources, or maybe someone just wants to give a piece of kindness and support a project aimed at the safety of the patient and the doctor.
