Road to Ukraine

The campaign was initiated by Yaremma Vengrynovych, a volunteer from Belgium of Ukrainian descent.

Here is his text:

My name is Yaremma Vengrinovich. I was born and raised in Belgium, but I have Ukrainian blood from both my mother and father. At the age of 23, I am currently studying commercial engineering at KU Leuven. I visit my huge family in Ukraine once or twice a year. I notice a huge difference in living standards in many parts of the country, even in the West, hundreds of kilometers from where there is a conflict with Russia and where so many people need help. Ukraine is a country that has a lot to offer and has so much potential for development. However, I notice that it is so difficult to take steps forward and achieve full economic development. It is very difficult for me to see this, especially because it is about my home country. The distance between Ukraine and Belgium may seem very far, but for me it is close enough to cross it on a bicycle.

On August 28, I launched my bicycle self-challenge for a good purpose. From my home in Belgium I ride a bike to my home in Ukraine. By September 19, I will accomplish my own "Tour to Ukraine", more than 2225 kilometers. Thus, I will be only a few hundred kilometers behind the Tour de France.

With the help of this "Road to Ukraine" campaign I would like to raise money for SOS Children's Villages Ukraine. Young children who grow up or are born into a family that lost everything in the war do not start with equal opportunities. These children are extremely vulnerable. Every child has the right to a normal childhood, to grow up in favorable conditions and to develop into a full-fledged person. Every child deserves a minimum standard of living, a chance to get an education and find their place in society. Without any help, these children are already lost before they begin adulthood.
