Premature babies spend their first weeks or even months of life under constant medical supervision. Literally everything matters to them: temperature, light, sound, touch, and even body position.
Their lungs are still immature, their nervous system is just developing, and an incorrect position can create unnecessary strain, interfere with breathing, and affect sleep and overall well-being. That is why special positioning aids are not just a matter of comfort, but a fundamental part of caring for premature babies.
Thanks to our donors, we delivered swaddles, positioners, “nests,” pillows, curtains, and incubator covers to Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 1 for the neonatal intensive care unit and post-intensive care unit.
Swaddles, positioners, and “nests” help keep the baby’s body in a natural and safe position, reduce unnecessary tension, and support the head, shoulders, back, and limbs. They create a sense of boundaries and security for the infant, similar to what it felt like in the womb.
Curtains and covers on incubators reduce the impact of bright light, noise, and external stimuli. This is especially important for the development of the nervous system and the child’s peaceful recovery.
At Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 1, staff help premature, low-birth-weight, and critically ill newborns every day as they go through the first and most crucial stages of their fight for life.
We sincerely thank everyone who supported this fundraiser.
Thanks to you, our youngest patients are receiving a more stable, safe, and gentle environment!
