The dobro.ua platform and the Unbroken Center prosthetize defenders

His arm was blown off along with the radio. The sniper scout lost his right limb in the battles for Donetsk region. The newest and most modern prosthesis will be fitted to him thanks to fundraising on the website of the dobro.ua charity platform.

The soldier is 45 years old. The man does not disclose his name and surname, given the type of military service. He hides his face under a balaclava. He is a patient of the Unbroken National Rehabilitation Center.  

He stood up to defend the country at the very beginning of the war – in 2014. Hot spots of the East, difficult tasks, several contusions. He was seriously wounded during the great war – in August 2022. At that time, he and his comrades were retreating after a combat mission and had to return to their pre-arranged positions. On the way back, an enemy tank hit them.  

A tank shell fragment actually cuts off the sniper's right hand. Later he finds it ten meters away. In his hand is a walkie-talkie, which the defender used to communicate with his command seconds before the attack. Despite heavy bleeding, the man does not lose consciousness. He walks five kilometers to the evacuation point and leads the rest of the wounded guys. After receiving first aid at the stabilization center, the seriously wounded defender was sent further to Zaporizhzhia. There, in the fight for his life, he twice overcame clinical death. Now he is recovering in Lviv.  

At the Unbroken National Rehabilitation Center, the sniper is preparing for prosthetics. Every day he trains to prepare his muscles and subsequently to control the prosthesis in the best possible way. After receiving his new arm and learning how to use it, the Unbroken defender wants to continue his military service, so he hides his face. He can no longer destroy enemies on his own, but he is able to teach other soldiers the craft of sniping, which is what he will do after the rehabilitation is completed.

The money for the prosthesis was raised by the benefactors of the dobro.ua platform as part of the Prostheses for the Unbroken project. Since September last year, thousands of ordinary people, opinion leaders, and caring companies have been supporting the project, which aims to purchase state-of-the-art bionic prostheses for defenders who lost their limbs in the war. 

The process of prosthetics is not quick, because each prosthesis is made individually for each patient. And the components for the prostheses are purchased from one of the best manufacturers – Ottobock. 

The scout sniper will be fitted with a Michelangelo prosthesis worth 50 thousand dollars. Of course, it will never replace the defender's lost arm, but thanks to special sensors, it will be able to reproduce its function the best of all devices. These are the best prosthetic limbs that humanity has created so far. And we are happy that we are able to install them for our defenders thanks to people who care.
