A burn unit was opened in the ‘’Unbroken‘’ centre in Lviv with the support of Kyivstar

A modern burn unit for children was opened at the National Rehabilitation Centre ‘Unbreakable’ (UNBROKEN) in Lviv. Its creation became possible thanks to the joint efforts of business and philanthropists, in particular, within the framework of Kyivstar's Children's Hope initiative, which helps medical institutions save children's lives. In total, the project raised over UAH 33 million, of which Kyivstar invested UAH 28.3 million.
Every year in Ukraine, about 12 thousand children suffer burns. The war has only exacerbated this problem - mine-blast injuries are often accompanied by severe thermal injuries. Due to the lack of necessary equipment, parents were forced to seek help abroad. Now the situation has changed: the latest technology is already saving the lives of young patients at home in Ukraine.
Kyivstar and the dobro.ua platform launched the burns care unit in spring 2023 as part of the Children's Hope project, and the medical institution now has most of the necessary equipment to treat young patients. Over the two years of implementation of this area, we have managed to equip the department with advanced medical technologies, including a video system for paediatric surgery, an operating table, a unique bed for treating burns in children, a laser system for grinding scars, an anaesthesia machine, a monitor for monitoring the depth of anaesthesia, and more.
The opening of the new unit was a response to an urgent need and the result of effective cooperation between doctors, business, community and philanthropists.
The equipment installed meets the highest international standards and allows doctors to perform complex operations, reducing risks and speeding up the recovery process.
‘Quality home-based treatment is not only about medical care, but also about a sense of security and faith in the future. This project is an example of how the combined efforts of business and charity can create systemic change. We are not just responding to the challenges of today, we are building a medical infrastructure that will serve children in the future,’ comments Iryna Hutsal, director of the dobro.ua charity platform.
