38 parrots
My name is Svetlana Panayotidi. I am a woman, a mother and a state commissioner of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine. And I'm soon 38. This figure is naturally associated with my childhood and my favorite book and cartoon about 38 parrots :) Birthday is a gift. It's a smile and a holiday. Having a chance to live is a miracle. I want instead of flowers and gifts for my birthday to raise funds for the purchase of artificial ventilation apparatus, which is needed by the Institute of Neurosurgery. Academician Romodanov, who is very needed for resuscitation. I want to see the smiles of the children who can survive through this device. And I will also be able to read my favorite children's book :)
3-6 surgeries daily. 1000-1200 surgeries yearly. All the hardest cases, all the youngest kids, from all the parts of Ukraine are brought to the Kiev’s Institute of Neurosurgery with all kinds of diagnoses: brain tumors, congenital pathologies, injuries and wounds.
Some children recover quickly and start breathing on their own some few hours after surgery. Others need a couple of days or even weeks to achieve that. Then there are those who need prolonged oxygen support.
Two of the “youngest” artificial lung ventilation machines that are currently working in the operating and intensive care rooms at the Institute of Neurosurgery are 8 years old and they often fail and break down, which sometimes causes emergency situations right during surgical procedures. All the other machines are 15 and more years old. “Malyatko” form the Soviet times are very rough working. Using this kind of outdated, worn out equipment is not only a risk to the little child’s health, but to his life altogether.
For several years now the doctors working at the Department have been dreaming of new, modern ALV machines: highly sensitive (for babies of 3+ kg), mobile (for easy transportation of children without disconnecting the machine), multifunctional… The most affordable kind of the machine that meets the technical requirements is SV300. It costs 388,000 UAH, but part of the amount for the first machine has already been raised (235,000 UAH)! We have 153,000 UAH to go!
Let’s help doctors save little Ukrainians’ lives!
