Desire to live is stronger than disease!
"I am sure that my dear boy will definitely grow and become a kind person as well as responsive to misfortunes of other people. He will appreciate every minute of life, he'll be thankful to those who do good deeds and will help those who need assistance, because he had to get mature so fast…" – these are the words of Victoria Kurta, the mother of the 7-year-old Kyrylo Mayorov who has already overcome a terrible illness once but has to fight against it again. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia which he has been treated for from 2012 hasn't spared the boy and has come back. Help Kyrylo in the struggle for his life!
The first time serious illness of Kyrylo had an effect in him was early in February 2012. Then his parents concerned about the son's health condition appealed to a pediatrician at their local hospital as the boy had complained about general weakness, absence of appetite and pain in the extremities. To make a potential diagnosis, doctors advised the parents of the child to fully analyse his blood. Test results showed that the level of hemoglobin was 58 g/l, the standard level is 115-150 g/l. According to the blood test results, the local pediatrician prescribed folic acid and Essentiale to the child but as soon as in three days Kyrylo was hospitalized with nasal hemorrhage to Yenakiyeve Central Children’s Hospital. The next day the boy was transferred by an ambulance to the Children’s Hematology Department of Donetsk Regional Central Clinical Hospital (V.K. Gusak Emergency and Corrective Surgery Institute of the Academy of Medical Science of Ukraine). It was there where the Mayorovs’ family heard the dreadful diagnosis of their son for the first time: acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
During the recent two years Kyrylo was under chemo within the ALL-IC-2002 program according to the standards of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. His health condition was very extremely critical during the treatment due to neuroleukemia with serious neurologic symptomatology, consequences of cephaledema, toxic enterocolitis and dynamic intestinal obstruction. After Kyrylo had been under supportive chemo, the test results started to raise the question. The boy was prescribed a puncture.
On 29/04/2014 Kyrylo's diagnosis was confirmed: acute lymphoblastic leukemia and early isolated bone marrow relapse. That meant that the earlier treatment had not yielded required results. The illness has been waiting for its new entrance. Now Kyrylo Mayorov is undertaking the urgent second block of chemotherapy in the Children’s Hematology Department of Donetsk Regional Central Clinical Hospital, as the first block didn't show remittence. Today’s health condition of the boy is rather critical – chemotherapy caused some complications: mycotic lesions of tunica mucosa of the mouth, a low blood value and double pneumonia. 44% of the child’s bone marrow involve blasts and the lungs are suspected to be affected with cancer cells.
When Victoria, Kyrylo’s mother, loses heart in tears or despair and when for some moment she loses her confidence in her boy coping with the illness, her son comes to her and softly whispers: "Mummy, don’t cry, everything will be fine because you and I are strong, and strong people mustn't cry". And then Victoria regains her strength to continue her fighting for the life of her son. She mops tears from her face and replies: "Yes, sonny, we are strong and we'll fight for you with your dreadful illness. And WE will certainly WIN this fight. It can't be otherwise".
