In May 2019, 33 years old Oleksii experienced a terrible tragedy. While on vacation in the Czech Republic, he was in a serious accident. Oleksiy was driving a motorcycle and he was involved in a head-on collision. With multiple injuries, he was taken to the intensive care unit of a Czech hospital. Oleksiy was put into a medical sleep. The resuscitators fought for his life for three weeks. The injuries he got are very severe, they changed this man’s life. After the Czech Republic, Oleksiy was transferred to the Odessa Military Hospital, Ukraine.

Unfortunately, he cannot walk: his spinal cord is damaged. He needs to undergo a hemodialysis procedure for three times a week because both his kidneys were removed. Alexey underwent 9 operations in total including removing part of the large and small intestines and inserting titanium plates inserted into his legs. What’s more, there are still surgical interventions ahead.
Oleksiy’s family - his wife Oksana and their little son - support him in every possible way and Oleksiy himself is trying to hold on, although he is experiencing lots of psychological as well as physical pain. He is the head of the family and the breadwinner in the recent past. And now he is in such a state where he himself needs help and a lot of care.

In Oleksiy’s hometown, in Odessa, a new rehabilitation centre MOTUS has been recently opened. One of its founders, Sergii Rashchenko, knows about such people’s problems and needs very well. Rehab therapists are ready to help Oleksii. Now they are helping him at home. But in the future, the classes are planned to be attended in the mentioned hall. The family sorely lacks money to pay for rehabilitation classes and we are asking you to help Oleksii pay for these classes in order to help him restore his motor function.

The number of classes per month is constantly regulated depending on Oleksii's well-being, but each meeting with a rehabilitologist is another step towards a better future for him. This is an opportunity to overcome pain and depression from what is happening. The Shymko family asks to support them financially. Any help is important to them.
