The Heart of Glib from Kharkiv Has Been Saved

Glib Smaha, 11 years old, Kharkiv.

An open arterial duct was discovered in Glib’s heart only this year. Doctors immediately referred the boy for surgery, as delaying treatment with such a diagnosis could be dangerous.

The family lives in the Saltivskyi district of Kharkiv. At the beginning of the full-scale war, their home came under shelling and suffered significant damage.
Glib’s father joined the defense of Ukraine from the very first days. In 2023, he sustained a severe injury and underwent a long period of treatment and rehabilitation.
Glib’s mother lost her job when the war began. Despite all the hardships, she and her son have remained in their hometown, waiting for victory and the father’s return home.

On October 22, at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery, Glib underwent a successful endovascular operation to close a congenital heart defect.
The cost of the implant amounted to 49,500 UAH. The implant for the surgery was purchased thanks to Svitlana Panaiotidi’s fundraising initiative, as she once again dedicated her birthday to helping children with heart defects.
