When I can't breathe, I turn on my oxygen concentrator, and my little boy reaches for it, too..." Elena writes to us. Little Vanya doesn't yet understand that it is not a game.

He doesn't know how fragile his happiness in his mother's embrace is, he doesn't know that among people with cystic fibrosis his mother is already considered a long-time survivor. Let his and his mother's happiness continue for as long as possible, then! We must raise money to buy the IV medications for Elena's treatment, to drive her illness into remission.

In people with CF, infections take root in their lungs and cannot be eliminated completely. But correctly chosen and timely administered antibiotics can keep the infection contained for a long time and prevent it from doing major damage. Some of these medications Elena has to take daily in tablet form, others she has to breathe in daily via a nebulizer. But courses of stronger IV medications are also absolutely necessary, 2-3 times a year. This treatment is specific to CF--the antibiotics, in order to be effective, have to be given in very large doses. And that is why one course of such treatment for an adult costs an exorbitant amount of money. However, these courses of treatment are essential for survival of people with CF.

If one doesn't undergo the scheduled treatment on time, the illness gets exacerbated, the entire body is affected and not all of the adverse effects of the illness can be reversed afterwards. And Elena feels so bad during such an exacerbation, that because of weakness and shortness of breath, she cannot even perform daily household tasks, take care of her son, play with him... during such a time, she herself needs someone's help. In short, it's much better not to let it get to that point.
