«Children's Hope: Helping children with burns. Laparoscopic stand»

In the spring of 2023, Kyivstar, together with the charity platform dobro.ua from the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace, joined forces with the National Rehabilitation Centre «Unbroken» and expanded the Children's Hope charity programme to include a new area - helping children with burns.

This initiative arose as a result of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. According to statistics, 12,000 children in Ukraine suffer burns every year, and 25-40 of them die as a result of life-threatening burns. And because of the war, this number is growing every day.

Burn injuries rank second among childhood injuries and are among the most difficult to treat. Currently, Ukraine is forced to send the most seriously burned children abroad due to the lack of sterile conditions and sufficient medical equipment.

To remedy this and create conditions for the full treatment of children at home in Ukraine, Kyivstar launched a charity initiative and invested UAH 20 million to purchase specialised medical equipment for the children's burn unit of the National Rehabilitation Centre «Unbroken» based at the First Medical Unit of Lviv, which has become one of the main shelters for children affected by the war. The medical facility has received more than 3,000 children fleeing the war, including 250 with mine-blast injuries and burns from all over Ukraine.

As part of the grant under the «All of Ukraine. Helping children with burns» the following equipment has already been purchased: a burn bed, an analyser, an anaesthetic station, surgical instruments, an electrosurgical apparatus and a laser system.

Currently, the funds will be used to purchase a laparoscopic stand - RUBINA 3D 4K video system for paediatric surgery + insufflator + irrigation pump + instruments.

This equipment is designed for laparoscopic surgery (operations on internal organs are performed through small holes) with maximum safety in 3D visualisation mode.
