Children's hope: help to the Odessa regional hospital. Cardiac surgery 4
In November 2018, Kyivstar, together with the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace, launched "Children's Hope" project to help children with heart disease and cancer treated in Ukrainian hospitals. Despite the war, the programme continues to operate and provide necessary medical equipment to Ukrainian hospitals. In the spring of 2023, the "Children's Hope" initiative will be expanded to include a new area of work - help for children with burns - to provide medical care to children with burns in Ukraine.
In December 2024 - January 2025, the Cardiovascular Surgery Department with the Intensive Care Unit of the Odesa Oblast Children's Clinical Hospital of the Odesa Oblast Council will receive assistance under the Cardiology project.
The Odesa Regional Children's Clinical Hospital provides care to children from the city of Odesa, Odesa Oblast and neighbouring regions. The Cardiovascular Surgery Department with an intensive care unit provides inpatient care for children with congenital heart disease and vascular anomalies, which continues to operate even despite the full-scale war. Every year, up to 200 children are newly diagnosed with congenital heart disease. Approximately 150 children are treated during the year, about 20 of whom are children weighing less than 1.5 kilograms and also require surgical interventions.
The funds raised will be used to purchase sterilisation containers made of aluminium for the hospital's cardiovascular department, which guarantee convenience, reliability and safety, which are critical in the work of a medical institution.
The sterility of instruments is the basis for safe treatment and the key to a successful outcome of each operation. Instrument sterilisation is one of the most important, yet most vulnerable processes in a clinic. To ensure this process, strict quality and hygiene standards must be met. Modern sterilisation containers help to maintain high standards of handling and circulation of medical devices, providing patients and doctors with confidence in every stage of treatment.
