Tetiana Mykhailivna is 71 years old. She has devoted most of her life not to herself, but to her family. After her son was born, he suffered a severe birth injury that changed the life of the entire family forever. From that moment on, every day of Tetiana Mykhailivna’s life was dedicated to caring for her son, who lives with a disability. She worked at the Kommunar factory, and while she was at work, the boy was cared for by his grandparents. Together, they did everything they could to ensure that he grew up surrounded by love and care.
In 2009, the family faced another devastating challenge – Tetiana Mykhailivna’s husband suffered a stroke and became completely dependent on others for care. For the next fifteen years, she cared for both her husband and her son, putting her own health and rest aside. In 2024, her husband passed away. Since then, she and her son have been left alone. Despite her age, she continues to care for her son every day, but she increasingly needs support herself. The constant physical strain, years of uninterrupted caregiving, and life under shelling in one of Kharkiv’s most dangerous districts have exhausted her strength.
But the greatest fear Tetiana Mykhailivna has is not the explosions. The most painful question she asks herself every day is:
"What will happen to my son if something happens to me?".
He cannot live independently and requires constant care.
That is why the support of a social care worker is vital for this family. Assistance with caregiving and household tasks, help with purchasing food and medication, and the opportunity for an elderly mother to rest, even for a short while — this is more than just a social service. It is a chance for two people to live with dignity, feel supported, and know that they are not alone in facing their challenges.
Today, we are launching a fundraising campaign to cover the salary of a social care worker who provides assistance to those who need it most. Thanks to your support, at least 15 people will receive home care services for one month. Please support our project. Your contribution will help older people living alone receive the care, attention, and support they need – and, most importantly, know that there are people who truly care about them.
