Mykolaiv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital is a specialized medical institution that provides round-the-clock medical assistance to the children of the Mykolaiv region from 0 to 18 years old. Now the hospital provides assistance not only to sick and wounded children of the region, but also to those temporarily displaced from other regions of Ukraine because of military aggression by the russian federation. During the month, 2,500-3,000 children receive help here – this includes inpatient treatment (up to 800 children per month), outpatient counseling, and rehabilitation. The institution also works as a military hospital.
But in order to provide all-round necessary assistance to its patients, the institution desperately needs a powerful audiometer, tympanometer and an encephalograph.
An audiometer is a device for objectively examining the hearing of newborns and children by the screening method. The device is simply placed on the child's head, and after a few seconds the doctor has information about the child's hearing status. The device also provides information on the localization of hearing defects.
This equipment should be available in every medical institution for early hearing examination of children, because in Ukraine there is a problem that parents find out about their children's hearing disorders very late, when it could have been detected earlier and treatment started as soon as possible. Audiometry is mandatory for all newborns as a screening to detect deafness at an early stage, and for children of all ages as indicated, on average up to 100 children per month.
The tympanometer (Instrumental impedance measurement) examines the condition of the middle ear (whether there is fluid or foreign bodies in the middle ear, inflammatory process, deformation or growth of auditory ossicles, etc.) The only method by which otosclerosis can be detected. For example, a person may complain of hearing loss, but he has fluid in his ear, after its removal, his hearing returns, and hearing aids are not needed. It may also be determined that a person needs an operation and not a hearing aid. The tympanometer is prescribed even for people who are deaf, for all age groups. On average 100 children are diagnosed on this device per month.
Unfortunately, hearing problems can also be acquired due to injuries and noise of such a force that harms health. In the conditions of constant shelling of the region, the presence of a large number of explosive objects, numerous injuries of the civilian population, such equipment is extremely necessary. It will provide an opportunity to carry out full diagnostics, including complex pathologies of diseases, and comprehensive information for proper treatment.
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a method of diagnosing the brain, which allows analyzing its physiological maturity and condition, the presence of lesions, post-brain disorders and their nature. EEG is most often used to diagnose epilepsy. It is also used to diagnose sleep disorders, depth of anesthesia, coma, encephalopathy, etc. EEG was used as a primary method for diagnosing tumors, stroke and other focal disorders. On average, up to 150-180 children per month undergo this procedure in this hospital.
Today, you can support Mykolaiv and its small residents, who are loyal to Ukraine and their hometown, by providing comprehensive, high-quality medical care. Remember that every contribution you make is important.
