Newborn babies, especially premature babies, are subjected to numerous painful invasive manipulations during the entire period of inpatient treatment. Most of the procedures were performed during the first 3 days (on average, the child received 7 painful procedures per day). Collecting venous blood for the treatment of pathological jaundice of newborns, which is an accompanying diagnosis in premature babies, also requires the puncture of fragile and overly sensitive skin and a tiny vein, which is a very painful procedure.

The non-invasive transcutaneous method of measuring the level of bilirubin provides a significant reduction in the stress and pain burden on newborns, which inevitably accompanies them during the collection of venous blood to determine the level of total bilirubin by an invasive method. But to use this method, you need a suitable device – a bilirubinometer.

The purpose of our project is to purchase and transfer a transcutaneous bilirubin meter to the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Perinatal Center. Last year, 2,952 babies were born in the institution from all over the region, 20% of which were born prematurely and require long-term treatment, observation and care. The facility is currently one of the leaders in Western Ukraine in the care of babies born to women who were forced to relocate from war zones.

Together, let's help babies reduce the number of painful procedures on the way to their recovery!
