Since 5 years old Vladik was sure that he would like to be a fireman. Fighting among the elements of fire and water, save people – the boy is literally enchanted by this. No zoo visit can be compared to the local fire brigade visit, where everybody knows the kid and his mother and take them like friends.

“I will grow up and will save even cats!”, Vlad says though he is not a fan of little animals. “But as I’m not a fireman yet, can I chase cats a little?”. He is a true boy! And his disease is also a true one and doesn’t give him even a day break.

The cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease damaging the respiratory and digestion organs giving complications up to liver cirrhosis. When the boy is dreaming of future of a fireman Vlad is not distracted by asphyxia caused by smoke – every day since his childhood the boy fights against the lack of air taking medicines and training lungs to be able to breathe. Medicines we want to buy must be enough for the boy for half a year, a special medical suction apparatus will help to clean the paranasal sinuses from sticky mucus.

Chronic lungs infections are unfortunately constant Vlad’s companions. Due to disease-specific features, they cannot be cured completely, they can be only suppressed. They wake up from time to time and take a lot of energy. Together with complications in food assimilation, this causes the fact that the boy is very small and cannot gain weight: he cannot succeed; precious grams just burn out because of next infection episode. That is why it is so important to have special nutrition for Vlad’s diet.
