Help children to run away from cancer, Volodymyr Vakht
April 17, 2016 Vladimir Vakht will take part in Kyiv half marathon together with the team of "Tabletochki" foundation to raise money for children with cancer.
Vladimir Vakht joined Ukrainian office of "Deloitte" in 1994, and in 2002 was appointed as a Managing partner of "Deloitte" in Ukraine, Belarus and Georgia. He became the first citizen of Ukraine, who led the practice among companies of the Big Four on this market.
Currently heads the department consulting. In his spare time enjoys running, playing tennis, exploring the history of the society. But Vladimir’s favorite hobby are motorcycles, to which he devotes free time throughout the year.
Married, raising daughter.
His decision to support "Tabletochki" wards Vladimir explains like this:
“I undertake a commitment to collect at least 100 000 UAH for Tabletochki Charity Fund, and I hope for your support in this great cause.
Why do I run: Movement is life and I want to live. I also want to help saving someone’s life.
Why charity: I have come to realize that it is a great joy in being needed by someone. Giving gifts is more satisfying than receiving them.
Why a half marathon: Why participate in such an event, if you can just transfer money to children? The answer is simple: I want to offer other participants to experience the feeling of being needed by someone. For me personally, the decision to participate in the half marathon serves as a safeguard of my serious intentions to meet fundraising obligations. The marathon distance is a real challenge for me, because this task cannot be delegated to someone else or postponed. The final weeks of preparation for the half marathon will help to raise attention of a large group of people to the problem of child oncology.
Why oncology: Cancer treatment is hugely expensive, protracted and very painful process. In a country with an average monthly salary of USD 100-130, lack of health insurance programs and state support, we can only rely on each other. The last two years have shown that volunteers and civil society activists can effectively solve problems, which, at times, cannot be handled at the state level. We cannot afford the luxury of waiting, when the state will be reformed into an effective, fair and safe environment. We must act today, within our own capabilities and desire to improve our lives and the lives of others.
Why children: Children are the most unprotected members of our society. They cannot solve the problem they are faced with. Another reason is that child oncology is curable (a recovery rate in Ukraine is 50% and over 90% – abroad).
The funds may be transferred to a bank account via Privat24 service or given to me personally. Every little bit helps a great cause.”
As part of the charity marathon Vladimir is raising 100 000 UAH to purchase anti-tumor drug Temodal.
