Help me to grow up! 2

Dear donors! You already know Elina Hordienko, a little girl who was diagnosed with achondroplasia and who suffers from violation of her body proportions. Due to genetic pathology the limbs bones growth slows down, they grow incorrectly, do not develop in length, get curved and have anomaly shape. The only treatment way is a surgery on lengthening and extension of bones. Thanks to help of caring people the little girl has already underwent two stages of surgery. In February 2020 she had a surgery on tibia lengthening and in May 2021 on arm bones lengthening. At the moment Elina requires the final third and most complicated stage – thigh lengthening.

Arms got 8 cm longer and tibia 8 cm longer as a result of the first two surgeries. This decreased body disproportions a lot, the girl became more independent with her living skills. She can open the door, brush her hair and get dressed, she can walk more and even ride a bike. But the most important thing is that her height increased. She visited a kindergarten just like other kids and did not feel uncomfortable.

Thigh lengthening is the last stage in this cycle of surgeries and it is very important. Without this surgery thigh bones deformation will grow progressively worse, bones will thicken, curve and twist inside. Moreover, this disease causes psychological issues connected with lack of height – insecurities on her height, hard adaptation in society, especially in kids. According to the statistics about 80% of people suffering from achondroplasia have different social phobia.

Children already notice that Elina is much shorter than others… the girl is 6 years old nor, however, her height corresponds to that of a 3 years old kid (95 cm). Elina is going to school soon, she is a clever girl, she is ready and she wants to study. So, it is important to solve the issue with thighs as soon as possible to visit school like a regular child, for her to grow, develop, communicate, make friends to the utmost and avoid insecurities. Unfortunately, the surgery is very expensive and the family does not have own funds to have it. We ask you to respond and support the project!
