Are we wondering how adult cancer patients are treated for oncology? Does it hurt them as much as it hurts the children? Do they help them in the fight for their lives? To take a blood test, transfuse blood or thrombocyte concentrate, drip antibiotics or other medicine... Those who have experienced that in their lives, at least once, know that these are not simple procedures. Too unpleasant and painful. So now, let's imagine those who, by the will of fate, ended up in a hospital with a terrible diagnosis and treatment that lasted for months.

These are patients, whose blood is taken for analysis almost daily, who are given chemotherapy drugs for more than one day or two, not one hour, but longer. This chemo is burning, from which the veins burn out. Over time, these patients have no veins visible. They simply can not be found. That adds to the hassle of both doctors and patients themselves. Fortunately, medicine is developing and makes progress.

In order to avoid such consequences with veins in oncology treatment, there is a venous access port system. Such a system is installed once for the entire course of treatment! Thanks to that, the patient's veins are not injured, he does not feel all the charms of heavy, burning chemo; everything is injected through the port: chemotherapeutic agents, blood, plasma and antibiotics, absolutely everything that is prescribed by the doctor according to the treatment protocol. The port system has one more aspect that is important. During the entire period of treatment and treatment breaks patients can lead their usual way of life. The port system does not need to be flushed and bandaged, be afraid to wet it. A person can visit the pool, take a shower, walk, etc.

It is enough to tell the doctor about your hobbies and your favourite sport, and the doctor will install the port system in the most suitable for the patient place. It is very comfortable and settles down the skin itself. A catheter connected to the port is inserted into a central vein. The port itself is located under the skin. The nurse pierces the port membrane, the infusion set is connected to the needle, and the medication begins.

The problem of comfortable treatment of children has been solved for a long time and successfully. All children undergo treatment with similar catheters. The donations for the treatment of children are collected everywhere. Still, the adult category of cancer patients does not have this opportunity. That is their own problem, and it is not so easy for them to solve it. The cost of one port system is 8 000 UAH. Since the dosage of drugs in adults is much higher than in children, their cost is much higher consequently. There are only a few foundations that help adults.

Our dear donators! We ask you to help us collect 80,000 UAH to purchase 10 port systems for the chemotherapy department of Kyiv City Clinical Oncological Center! Please, let’s support adults in their difficult struggle for their lives! Let’s help make their treatment more comfortable and painless!

Sure, adults are mature, but they are sensitive to feeling hurt, feeling pain and hard times as much as children do!

Thank you for being with us!
