Access to education even in a hospital

The Superheroes School at the National Children's Specialized Hospital "Okhmatdyt" of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine covers children from pediatric, endocrinological, neurological, orthopedic departments, oncohematology and TCM. Over the years of organizing the educational process, we have repeatedly received confirmation that learning during treatment has a therapeutic effect. Doctors note that children who do not focus only on the disease, but continue their education, communicate with teachers, have better health, and recover faster.

Thanks to the support of users of the dobro.ua platform at the Superheroes School in NDSL "Okhmatdyt" in the period from January to November 2021 were held 279 lessons, and with funding from other sources another 202, which is a total of 481 lessons:

1. January - 33 lessons;
2. February - 67 lessons;
3. March - 50 lessons;
4. April - 39 lessons;
5. May - 21 lessons;
6. June - 23 lessons;
7. July - 9 lessons;
8. August - 19 lessons;
9. September - 72 lessons;
10. October - 73 lessons;
11. November - 75.

During the project, lockdown was introduced three times in Kyiv, when teachers could only engage with children remotely using communications, the Internet, computer and mobile gadgets. In general, teachers combined offline and online lessons, following the recommendations of doctors, focusing on the condition of children and taking into account the technical possibilities of conducting classes.

During the reporting period, the head of the Superheroes School at NDSL "Okhmatdyt" organized the educational process, communicating with teachers, doctors, children and their parents, compared the schedule of group and individual lessons. Based on the lessons learned, teachers were tabulated on a monthly basis.

As a public organization, we continued the dialogue with the state, in particular with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Office of the President of Ukraine to organize the educational process in hospitals at the state level. On October 28, 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution "On ensuring the organization of educational services for children in inpatient treatment or rehabilitation assistance." Our entire advocacy campaign aimed at the state on the need to provide educational services, and from January 1, 2022 will be established State Institution "Superheroes School ". It will ensure the continuity of preschool and general secondary education and the development of children regardless of their state of health. For us, it is both a joyful event and the fruit of hard work, daily effort, perseverance and patience, overcoming obstacles and starting a new phase with the belief that the goal will be achieved - every child in hospital will be provided with appropriate educational services , and teachers who come to the hospital will receive a decent salary. It is planned that funding for teachers' salaries in hospitals will begin on September 1, 2022. Until then, the remuneration of teachers, in particular in NDSL "Okhmatdyt" of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, is our task.

We will continue to ensure the continuing education process at the Okhmatdyt NDSL in the future, so that as many children as possible are included in the hospital's educational services.
