Two leukemia for one boy
Spring 2013 for Yurchyk was full of hopes, it is spring boy finished treatment of lymphoblastic leukemia, which lasted one year and six months. Being happy and excited, during whole summer Yurchyk was preparing for school, tutors and teachers were impressed by his ability and perseverance. In August another thing happened – not recurrence, since Yurchyk has stable remission. In August, the boy got diagnosis – another type of cancer - Secondary myeloid leukemia. Two diagnoses. Two leukemia for 13-year old boy.
All dreams were broken at once... Yurchyk was not ready for such shock, for few days boy kept to himself; he quietly lay on the bed, turned to the wall and did not even want to talk. "Mom, only I know what I really feel!" Smart and clever, he immediately understood – that it is a long time in the hospital, that there is no chance for school again, that many days and weeks of grueling chemotherapy are coming. Soon the boy realized one more thing – that the only salvation for him is transplantation, bone marrow transplantation from non-relative donors abroad. Moreover, that price is unattainable value for his parents ...
However, there was no choice Yurchyk had to pull themselves together and get to treatment. Chemotherapy didn’t start immediately – the start was delayed by infection that complicated situation more. Nevertheless, the main treatment started. Today the third course of chemotherapy is in progress. Yurchyk is taking treatment with varying success, and the desire to live and support of relatives and friends help Yurchik to overcome depression, and boy again is full of optimism and determination.
Transplantation is planned to be done in Wroclaw, donor search is in progress. The cost of operations 97 953 Euro and is currently only collected about 55 000 Euro. Story of Yuriy Liadov is especial; two types of leukemia - a big deal for one boy, and two treatments - a big deal for a typical Ukrainian family. All financial capacity of the family have been exhausted by prior treatment, as Yury is almost adult – so has got huge number of immunoglobulins, antibiotics, antifungal, and the treatment was very difficult ...
And now all hope is to find people who care - we can save Yurchyk. Once he has won. He will win again! But he really needs support and help, because the success of treatment depends, unfortunately, not only from Yuriy’s willingness to fight. With our support, Yury can win, for sure!
