The energy of small hearts

About 3 500 children are born in Ukraine with congenital anomalies of the cardiovascular system, of which 30-40% of patients are in critical condition. Without surgery, about 40% of these patients die in childhood, and almost 90% - before the age of one year.

Annually in the Department of Pediatric Surgery named N.N. Amosov, about 700 operations are performed for children from all over Ukraine, for whom the "price" of a successful operation is their future life, of which 70 are operations with critical deficiencies. These are Norwood's operations for hypoplasia of the left heart, arterial switching operations during transposition of the great arteries, systemic-pulmonary anastomoses for pulmonary atresia, and many others. To save small hearts, in addition to highly qualified personnel, expensive equipment is required, which includes the availability of special surgical instruments.

Now the Department of Congenital Heart Diseases in Newborns and Young Children of the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery is in dire need of purchasing a special surgical instrument for urgent operations in newborns. These are the so-called microinstruments, which differ from their counterparts in their small size and impeccable workmanship (microtweezers, vascular clamps, needle holders). It is such a tool that allows you to safely and efficiently operate on the heart of a newborn and vessels with a diameter of 1 to 3 millimeters in diameter.
