GoCamp: Global Shapers Kyiv Hub

To support such projects means, for us, to contribute to the development of a new, well-educated generation of conscious citizens of Ukraine, to motivate young people to make new discoveries and extend their horizons, to overcome barriers, and to foster sharing and exchange in all the spheres.

To support such projects means, for us, to contribute to the development of a new, well-educated generation of conscious citizens of Ukraine, to motivate young people to make new discoveries and extend their horizons, to overcome barriers, and to foster sharing and exchange in all the spheres.

Foreign languages make it possible to be a full-fledged resident of this planet. If you speak a foreign language, you can communicate with people in any corner of the world; it gives you new opportunities to receive information and opens up new ways to perceive the world through art, literature, science, and world heritage. The more languages we speak, the wider is our life opportunities horizon. It equally concerns education, employment, and traveling.

We represent Kyiv branch of the international community Global Shapers with centers in 450+ cities all around the world. Foreign language helps us to communicate with the rest of the world, extend our horizons, and receive unique experience and impressions. Moreover, in the times of globalization, a foreign language is a necessity for each of us, as well as an instrument indispensable for a successful career.

The GoCamp project is a school language camps involving international volunteers, who, together with English teachers, help children to learn foreign languages. GoGamp is about opportunities which are opening for Ukrainian children (only this year 60 000 children), namely learning about cultures of various countries, developing skills, which cannot be taught at school – critical or global thinking, for instance. For many pupils, it will be their first meeting with a foreigner in their lives. In 2017, 600 volunteers are going to visit Ukraine, 80% of whom will go to small villages.

Volunteers will live with a host family of one of the pupils, which gives a special value to the project and opens the Ukrainian culture for foreigners in depth. As a result, foreigners ruin prejudice towards Ukraine, open it again and become the Ambassadors of our country in the world.

Project results in 2016:
- 120 volunteers from 40 countries;
- 127 schools GoCamps from 24 regions of Ukraine;
- 9,000 children.
