Heroes without pain

Prior to the launch of the project, patients who had undergone surgical procedures and subsequent rehabilitation often faced the problem of acute and chronic pain. Pain persisted not only during the post-operative period, but also during rehabilitation and even after discharge from hospital.
The main reasons for this were a shortage of modern medical equipment, limited capacity for accurately diagnosing the causes of pain, as well as a lack of specialist staff and a systematic approach to pain management. As a result, medical teams were not always able to comprehensively assess a patient’s condition and develop effective, personalised pain management strategies.

The project was established with the aim of developing a systematic approach to pain management for UNBROKEN patients. The main objectives were to train specialists in modern methods of pain diagnosis and treatment, to provide them with the necessary equipment, and to bring together specialists from various fields into a multidisciplinary team.

In September 2024, the ‘Heroes Without Pain’ project was launched on the dobro.ua platform of the UBB International Charitable Foundation to establish pain treatment centres. As it was necessary to commence implementation of the project, a portion of the funds raised, amounting to 10,388,317.00 UAH, was transferred to us in September 2025. In March 2026, we suspended fundraising for the project in accordance with letter No. 30/03/2026 dated 30 March 2026 and reduced the amount to the sum actually raised – 10,544,875.00 UAH – as we had received part of the funds from other sources of financing. The remaining funds raised, totalling 156,558.00 UAH, were transferred to us on 31 March 2026.

As part of the charitable fundraising campaign at this stage of the project, some of the necessary medical equipment was purchased for a total of 2,079,090.13 UAH, namely:
•    a dual-head operating theatre lamp, which provides high-quality and stable lighting during surgical procedures;
•    an ultrasound scanner, which enables accurate diagnosis and the planning of further treatment;
•    a defibrillator, which is critical for patient safety in the event of cardiovascular emergencies during operations and rehabilitation.
Between September and October 2025, the purchased equipment was handed over to the MUNICIPAL NON-PROFIT ENTERPRISE ‘1st Lviv Territorial Medical Association’.

In September 2025, a contract was signed for renovation works to refurbish part of the operating theatre block to establish a Pain Management Centre. The total cost of the works carried out amounted to 8,176,383.84 UAH. The works were completed in July 2026.
The remaining funds, amounting to 289,401.03 UAH, are planned to be allocated in 2026 to further fit out the premises of the Pain Centre and provide them with the necessary equipment.
