Infusomats in the children's department of hematology
The Hematological department of Odessa Children’s Clinical Hospital is in desperate need of controlled syringe pumps – the apparatuses for continuous dispensing of chemotherapy. For our department with 30 beds, it is necessary to have at least 2 special infusion pumps for intravenous administration of medications. An oncology child stays in the hospital together with the mother. Definitely, each of us saw, just once in life (by TV or live), a tired mother sitting near the infusion drip and keeping a watchful eye how a medication is being fed.
However, there exists special equipment that ensures a high-precision feeding of medications and their steady introduction in the child’s organism for a long period of time. These are controlled syringe pumps or, as they are simply called, infusion pumps.
An infusion pump controls all parameters in the course of feeding chemotherapeutic agents in the organism, for instance, feeding rate and volume of the introduced medications. It is a vitally important function of the apparatus as all agents, even at mild chemotherapy, are very toxic – if they are introduced in blood too intensive, it might cause serious damage of the organism right up to death. On the other side, a shortage of the required quantity of chemotherapeutic agents can result in a complete absence of the treatment effect. Besides, application of infusion pumps precludes development of side effects and complications which is essential for treating oncologic diseases. Infusion pumps also ensure the maximum possible comfort for a patient: a child can walk around the department with the infusion pump, visit the games rooms and even take part in common amusements because an infusion pump is provided with storage batteries and is very light
Please, help us to collect the required amount of funds so that we can purchase the equipment! Let all of us make it so that our children and their parents have an opportunity to use high-quality equipment and, consequently, have better chances to conquer the deadly disease!
