Vikusia was born after a calm and uncomplicated pregnancy. All medical tests and examinations were within normal limits, and the family was eagerly awaiting the arrival of their daughter. However, an unforeseen complication occurred at birth: a double tight umbilical cord entanglement caused asphyxia. During the first two weeks of her life, the baby remained in the intensive care unit and was connected to a mechanical ventilator. Upon discharge, doctors diagnosed her with hypoxic-ischemic injury of the central nervous system.
After returning home, a difficult and exhausting course of treatment began, including medication therapy, injections, massage, and therapeutic physical exercises. Over time, however, it became evident that the child’s development was
delayed: at three months she was unable to hold her head up, and by six months she could not sit independently. Later, another severe diagnosis was confirmed – cerebral palsy, spastic tetraparesis, hyperkinetic form.
Over the years, the family has undergone dozens of medical examinations in various cities across Ukraine. Vikusia completed her first rehabilitation course at the age of ten months, and since then, rehabilitation has become a regular and essential part of her life. These rehabilitation programs have produced noticeable results: she is now able to hold her head better and for longer periods, support herself on her arms, roll over, make attempts to control her body, and grasp objects. Each of these achievements confirms that consistent work with the child is both possible and necessary, and that her potential is far greater than it may initially appear.
Medical specialists emphasize that with systematic and continuous treatment, the child has realistic chances to live a full and active life and to continue developing. Rehabilitation not only helps her acquire new skills, but also prevents the progression of muscle spasticity. Interruptions in therapy, on the contrary, significantly complicate body control and lead to regression.
Despite all the challenges she faces, Vikusia is growing up to be a bright, kind, and attentive child. She responds warmly to affection and smiles, closely observes the people around her, and especially enjoys watching other children play. In such moments, she smiles as if sharing their joy. During therapy sessions, she demonstrates patience and perseverance, striving to complete each task even when it requires considerable effort.
This fundraising campaign is about timely assistance – about the critical period when rehabilitation is most effective and can shape a child’s future. Your support makes it possible to continue treatment without interruption and to give this little girl a genuine chance for full development.
