It will save the lives of some of them

It is difficult for them to breathe. They are small and their lungs are already damaged. They need help. They are children born with a severe genetic disease, cystic fibrosis. The disease is systemic, affects the whole body, interfering with the normal functioning of all vital organs and systems. In particular, the lungs suffer. Even against the background of general health, a child with cystic fibrosis has to do a lot of procedures every day and take a lot of medication just to be able to breathe normally. If such a child catches a respiratory infection, things get even more complicated. 

Due to the DNA breakdown, all the sputum in the patient's lungs has an increased viscosity, it accumulates in the bronchi, blocking the airways. It is very difficult to cough it up. When the infectious agents appear in this environment, they feel great there, actively reproduce and refuse to move out. Treatment takes long weeks, often requiring hospitalization, often intensive care. Tens of thousands of hryvnias are spent on the treatment of each case. And, as a result, the lungs still remain even more damaged than before such an exacerbation. 

It is better to prevent than to treat. In particular, pneumococcal vaccination is indicated for children with cystic fibrosis. Pneumococci are often the cause of many pneumonia cases. Such development of the disease is not pleasant for anyone, but pneumonia can be really fatal for our children. 

Unfortunately, in Ukraine, pneumococcal vaccination is not included into the national calendar provided by the state, so it can be done only for a fee. It is extremely important for our children to receive such help - it will save the lives of some of them.
