Music for young people with mental disabilities

Dream Workshop is a place of complete acceptance, friendship, and development for young people with mental disabilities. Unfortunately, nowadays, most people with intellectual impairments find themselves isolated in their homes after graduating from school. We decided that we want to change that, and in January 2017, we opened the doors of our center. There we are creating a new socialization model and education for people with mental disabilities, and we are in love with our jobs.

Currently, we are launching music therapy classes for our students. We have the opportunity to attract cool musicians-percussionists so that to the rhythm of the drums, our students reveal their potential and learn to interact with each other better. The finale of the music education will be a concert dedicated to the birthday of the Dream Workshop, where a joint performance of young people with different groups will take place.

A typical characteristic of people with mental disorders is a commitment to a regime and dislike of change. And music, like life itself, is rhythmic and impossible without improvisations. That is why it is so important to include it in our program. One of the main things we help our students to develop is flexibility and the ability to adapt to new circumstances. And also to interact with others, playing a common melody to communicate with each other.

And we need your support to make it happen. We know how great the power of community is because we have often seen how many small efforts have multiplied and exploded with fireworks. So now we ask for the support of our dream – to give people with mental disabilities, not just music and celebration. Give them a new rhythm of life and a fantastic feeling that they can do more than others expect of them, more than they think of themselves, whether to learn a new skill or create on the same stage with professionals because we are all capable of more than we expect. And next to a friend's shoulder, "impossible" is nothing more than a word.

At dobro.ua we raise funds to pay for 12 classes with musicians, each of which will be able to attend 11 students of the Dream Workshop.
