Hunger and malnutrition take a heavy toll on a child’s body. This is the time when the foundation for their future life is being built – when they constantly need proteins, fats, and vitamins. When a child is malnourished, their brain suffers, their immunity drops, their physical development slows down, and they become apathetic. In times of war, children already experience too much stress – and hunger only makes that pain more acute. That is why offering a bowl of hot soup or a piece of fish in time is an investment in their health today and in the future, in their ability to endure explosions, fatigue, and everything else.
At our Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of Children in Kyiv, 12 children between the ages of 2 and 17 live on a full-time basis. These are children who have been removed from their families and need shelter, care, stable nutrition, and a sense of safety. Here, they undergo rehabilitation and learn how to move forward in life.
Many of them came to us from families where food was something they could only dream of. Their bodies are weakened, and their immune systems are compromised.
Every day, these 12 children receive five full, balanced meals. And the results are visible: the children become more energetic, sleep better, and get sick less often. Their bodies grow stronger, enabling them to withstand stress and illness. Sharing a meal in a cozy atmosphere serves as proof to them that the world can be kind and reliable.
With your support for our project, we will be able to purchase food, pay the salary of the staff member responsible for organizing the meals (who plans the menu, controls the quality of the products, and ensures that the children receive tasty and healthy food), and cover utility costs.
A full plate for a child is more than just food. It is health, strength to play and learn, and a feeling of being cared for. Support these children and give them a chance to grow and develop, despite everything they have been through.
