The most expensive medicine will save Kyrylo!

Kyrylo is only 1.5 years old, and from the first days he has to fight for his life. The baby has one of the rarest genetic diseases – spinal muscular atrophy type 1 (SMA). SMA is progressive: weakness begins in the muscles of the legs, and as the disease progresses, it rises up, reaching the muscles responsible for swallowing and breathing. The heart is the last to surrender. Without proper treatment, children diagnosed with SMA actually slowly die in front of their families.

The only hope for the Kurulo's salvation exists abroad. Zolgensma is the world's first gene therapy medicine for children under 2 years of age registered in the USA! Now it is the most expensive drug in the world, it is listed in the Guinness Book of Records. The cost of one injection of Zolgensma is $ 2,235,000. This is an unaffordable amount for a family.

Kyrylo's parents do not give up – as soon as possible after the diagnosis was established, they left for Poland to receive supportive therapy in the form of injections of the Spinraza drug. The challenge with Spinraza is that it is injected into the spinal cord throughout life. This is due to the fact that this drug does not "repair" the damaged gene, but only activates the production of the required protein in the reserve gene.

The Kondrashevs' family does not have the opportunity to permanently live in Poland, so they decided to start raising funds for a new generation drug – Zolgensma, which is injected into the body once and stimulates the production of protein in the copy of damaged gene.

So far, this is the only chance for the family to return the child to full development and return to Ukraine. The biggest challenge is that according to clinical indications, Zolgensma must be injected before the age of 2 years. That is, Kyrylo has very little time left – a little more than six months.

Therefore, on dobro.ua we are starting the first stage of fundraising and want to raise part of the required amount – UAH 1 million – for Zolgensma injection and accompanying procedures and therapy for Kyrylo.

The funds raised on dobro.ua will be transferred to the account of the Nationwide Children's Hospital (USA) by the author of the project, Charitable Fund "Kiddo", to pay for the Kyrylo's treatment.
