In spite of statistics

Anzhelika and Sasha, a brother and sister with one severe diagnosis for two, are fighting for life together. They show by their own example that cystic fibrosis is no longer exclusively a childhood disease, as it was thought until recently. The boy and the girl grew up, got an education and crossed the line of the age of 30. When the exacerbations recede, they work. Sasha has married long ago and is raising a son. But, unfortunately, not everything is rosy.

Sasha and Anzhelika should take daily efforts to have life without constant exacerbations, when the lungs are clogged with viscous mucus. They take the prescribed drugs, perform physiotherapy exercises, and do inhalation procedures. Medical equipment requires timely disinfection, as well as regular replacement of filters and tubes. To do all this, the considerable expenses are required.

Sasha and Anzhelika will not be able to cope with all problems without our support. Cystic fibrosis patients are particularly vulnerable to infections. That is why the doctors emphasize the importance of preventing them through vaccination. Vaccines against influenza, hepatitis, pneumococcal and meningococcal infections are not included in the Ukrainian National Immunization Schedule, and therefore in the budget plan, as it was done in many developed countries. Whereas, the danger they create is great for the ordinary people, and especially for our wards. So the vaccination in the near future is one of the important tasks for Sasha and Anzhelika to be performed this autumn.
