A new dream – to walk
Walking on a prosthesis, as if on its own feet. Simply running down the stairs without crutches, bending the knee and handing the one –year old son Ivan, going for a walk in the yard. Such dreams occasionally 28-year-old Andrew has. And when he wakes up, he realizes that leg is amputated, and crutches are standing nearby.
Misfortune, as usual, knocked on the door unexpectedly. The young family has started everything from the very beginning - even less than two weeks passed after the birth of his son Ivan. One day the phone rang and his wife has heard that Andrew has injured his leg and that he was in the hospital. Then, no one could even imagine that this injury can lead to amputation.
Since childhood, Andrew was involved in football. When he was 16 years old he signed the agreement with Rivne football team "Veres", whose goal he had faithfully been defending for 6 years. That’s why he was awarded several times as the best goalkeeper in the competitions of different ranks. During one game, he was injured – he had knee ligament rupture. After prolonged treatment Andrew still could not say goodbye to the sport. Working as a salesperson, he performed at amateur competitions in futsal.
And during the one game, June 9, 2013, Andrew stumbled over a stone, fell awkwardly and was taken to the hospital with a leg injury (dislocated left knee with torn ligaments, occlusion of the popliteal artery). The young man spent in the hospital more than a month. During this time he has felt terrible pain, he had endured five operations, he had been lying all that time, because it was impossible to even get up on crutches. Only twice he was taken on a wheelchair outside. Of course, the family has spent a lot of drugs and surgery costs. However, despite the hopes and dreams for a better, doctors were not able to save Andrew’s leg ... After the last operation he was taken to the emergency room and was told that it was important not to save the leg, but life... and Andrew agreed for amputation.
Even in that situation, the young man who was a sportsman in past decided not to give up and not to stop. Having heard about the modern German-made prosthetic C-leg, which will help him to walk well without discomfort and to live an active life, a new dream appeared in his head. He dreamed to get this prosthetic, because with the help of it he will be able to bend his knee and to walk without crutches. Andrew imagined how he can go for walk with his little son without such obstacles as crutches.
His wife, Marina: "I suppose, that every woman, wife, mother will understand how important is when the close to her man is healthy, happy, lives properly without any complexes, works and does daily routines, like any healthy person. Andrew became a father, he brings up the son who has to look up to him! The father’s education is very important for every boy. I really want my two men to be happy and well ..."
Let's help Andrew to make his dreams come true.
