Recovery for Serhii!

Serhii Rudyk was born with serious diagnoses – cardiac failure (coarctation of the aorta), hearing loss of stage 5 (deafness), the boy can’t hear with his left ear and can hear very little with his right ear, thoracolumbar scoliosis (stage 4 at the moment with 100 degrees spinal curvature). At the present time scoliosis treatment is of high urgency since such spine location suppresses the weak heart and threatens the life. Extreme scoliosis (100 degrees and more) can be treated only by placing a metal implant to the spine.

Serhii was diagnosed with this disease when he was 5 and since that time the boy underwent treatment in a rigid brace. However, this did not bring the desired results. Scoliosis grew progressively worse, the deformation enlarged. After visiting Sytenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology it became clear that the surgery is unavoidable and is only a question of time and… money. The sooner the surgery is performed, the more chances to avoid permanent consequences.

The war caught Serhii and his family at home in Kherson. When occupiers came to the city and fights began, they went to the village to the Mykolaiv region. They were leaving very hard, it was scary… Somewhere behind their car a fight started, the car was thrown from the explosions, they were afraid that they would not escape. But, thank God, they could. They escaped, but Serhii's health is still in great danger due to scoliosis. And he still needs a metal implant on his spine.

Serhii is very kind, clever boy reaching after knowledge. He is interested in computers, wants to study to become a programmer. He has a dream to live without constant threat to his life. He knows that his disease can be cured only with the help of caring people. The implant cost is just unaffordable for his family since besides him, his mother grows other two underage children. The family has no one to ask help from. Serhii’s mother makes an appeal for help and hopes that her son will get a chance for a healthy life.
