Diapers for IDP children with disabilities

A diaper is a simple thing, but its influence is great. For children who do not control the functions of the pelvic organs, this means of hygiene is as important as food. While normotypical children learn to use the potty by age 3, children who have been diagnosed with certain illnesses and developmental delays may not be able to control their bladder. Some of them will eventually overcome this problem, others will be accompanied by it throughout their lives.

We have received 9 requests to purchase diapers for our beneficiaries. Some of the children need up to 220 units per month. This large number often means that all of the state benefits are spent on hygiene products. Among the families of our beneficiaries there are already twice displaced people. The first time in 2014, the second time in 2022. Parents are trying to survive and the diaper becomes a luxury item.

The lack of diapers restricts the child from going for walks or even visiting doctors. For children older than 5 years, the lack of a diaper degrades dignity. For parents, this is additional stress. The humanity and tolerance of any society is tested by the attitude towards people with disabilities.

Every family should be able to provide their children with both food and diapers, without having to choose between the two.
