Repair children's hearts

They are just being born, and they are already forced to fight for their lives. Every year 4-5 thousand children with congenital heart defects are born in Ukraine. And a third of them, 1,600 babies, are at risk of dying if they are not operated on in the first days of life. Such babies are rescued at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery. Last year alone, 800 children's hearts were operated on there.

During such surgical interventions, a special "preservative" solution – Custodiol is indispensable. It protects the heart from irreversible changes, in other words, "preserves" it for the duration of the operation, so that after it the repaired organ can continue to work.

In the last few months since the coronavirus broke out, cardiac surgeons have performed only emergency surgeries, and the facility has now begun accepting children for scheduled surgeries.
