Just a year ago, Ruslana was an ordinary, happy mother, raising her 5-year-old son and 14-year-old daughter, dreaming of the future. Everything changed in an instant in June 2025. The diagnosis sounded like a life sentence: acute encephalomyelitis. It is a severe condition where the body’s own immune system mistakenly attacks the brain and spinal cord, destroying nerve connections. The link between Ruslana’s brain and her muscles simply vanished. Initially, she used crutches, but the disease proved to be more insidious. In February 2026, a critical relapse occurred: within just two days, the young woman became a "living statue".
Three months of complete immobility in the hospital brought new suffering – grade IV pressure sores. These are deep wounds that reach the muscles and bones. Ruslana endured three surgeries and unbearable daily pain, but she did not give up. Her main motivation is the eyes of her children, who see their mother bedridden and dependent on a urinary catheter every single day. Today, Ruslana is back home; her wounds have finally healed, but her body still does not obey. She cannot even sit up on her own, let alone take a step. However, doctors are giving her a chance!
The Modrychi Specialized Center is ready to accept her for intensive neurorehabilitation. This involves the arduous daily work of specialists to help "rewire" Ruslana’s nervous system. Currently, one day of such treatment costs 10,270.00 UAH – an impossible sum for a family where the mother is bedbound. Most of us take thousands of steps every day without even noticing. For Ruslana, every single movement is a victory. The cost of a minimum course is 143,780.00 UAH. This is the price for a 5-year-old son to hold his mother’s hand in a park during a walk, rather than beside a hospital bed. Your donation is more than just money; it is a ticket back to life for a person who refuses to surrender.
Please support Ruslana! Let’s give her a chance for recovery and her first independent step!
