Life in numbers
Valentyn died, on December 1 the guy was buried. He led a long and exhausting struggle with the disease. He went through an unaccounted amount of chemotherapy, he was given a TCM in the Turkish clinic. But... It gave him a little life, but the disease did not win. The UBB team expresses our most sincere words of condolences to Valentyn's family. Is it possible to describe human life in numbers? Let's try: 16 is Valentine’s age that is only 1/5 of average human life duration. He is the only son in the family. 240 days he has already spent in hospitals. This young man was diagnosed with 4th-degree acute leukemia. There are 84% malignant cells are in his blood. He took 2.8 kg and 26 liters of different medicines during 6 courses of chemotherapy. More than 60 donors gave over 25 liters of blood to Valentine. USD 125 000 are needed for the boy to live through many times by 16 years.
The story of Valentine’s passions and plans, his talents and his love is endless. Such as endless a horrifying understanding that this story is about the past; that present is ghastly and the future is… what? Valentine’s future depends on amongst other things on us.
Last summer the boy got into the hospital in a very severe condition. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia of the IV degree was diagnosed. That’s when he got 6 courses of chemotherapy, passed through blood loss and numerous transfusions.
He toughed it all out. But the disease returned abruptly. A combined relapse occurred. Each day his body doubles the number of the malignant cells. And the further treatment brings no results. Ukrainian hematologists concluded that the only potential treatment is non-relative bone marrow transplantation that should be done ASAP.
The hope is given to Valentine by the Turkish Clinic Anadolu. The cost of transplantation there is USD 125 000. The clinic has agreed to take the boy in with only Euro 10 000 advance payment which the parents can cover themselves. Valentin flies to Turkey in two days. We plan to fundraise UAH 600 000 at UBB.
