Rescue chip
UPD: we have already collected 1 300 000 UAH for Eva. The Operator of Help transferred these funds to the clinic on 22.08.2019 as a deposit for the operation. Since the child’s condition is unstable due to frequent seizures, an additional examination and the introduction of special nutrition for Eva were required, therefore, the clinic used the clinic’s urgent treatment needs for USD 30,000 as prescribed by the doctors. The hospital has also acquired a chip for surgery. In this regard, there was a need for additional funds in the amount of USD 26,685. Therefore, we increased the amount of the project in order to pay for the operation.
One night Eva’s parents were awakened with some wondrous sounds, coming from their baby’s crib. The little one was shivering as though she was piercing an electric discharge. Soon the attack came back and the baby’s body slackened. The baby was only 3 months old when this first attack happened. The doctors were not able to make up the diagnosis for a long time and were cutting the pure girl at a guess. The medicines they prescribed not only didn’t bring any relief but rather aggravated the child’s condition. After one hard night, the daddy scooped up the child and left abroad to seek for help. In Israel, the treatment was proposed.
Eva is a very wanted child. The pregnancy and delivery were normal. Up to 3 months, the child was developing typically. Once the convulsion attacks came Eva’s, she began to eat poorly, to lag behind in development. Parents turned to doctors. For several months Eva had hundreds of tests, took lots of strong drugs, hormones, and injections. Instead of relief, the child got pneumonia, renal grave, and strabismus.
"We arrived at the hospital with infantile convulsions, ideal MRI, a clean EP panel and normal metabolism. They didn’t know what the reason was and insisted on Eve taking without diagnostics (to stop convulsions). During 2 months the child’s condition was deteriorating, the doctors were trying more and more toxic medicines. Every day they told me that it was leukodystrophy, or Krabbe, or Leia (one is more deadly than the other). That she would live for maximum 2 years, etc. And then I could not stand it, and we rushed in search of those would fight, but not bury her", says the mother of little Eva Nickel-Bochkala.
Only at 5 months Eva was diagnosed with epilepsy and taken to the hospital. There were days when the attacks reached 7 or 9 times a day. The little child slept less than 3 hours per day; her fragile body was surviving a true catastrophe. When Eva’s convulsions became so strong, that she was fading and turning blue, the loving parents borrowed money and flew to Israel. In the University Clinic, Hadassa Eva was diagnosed with a rare type of epilepsy, with which medications are helpless. Besides, it became evident that the baby as given a nocent dose of phenobarbital that led to a crisis, doctors could not cope with for three days.
The clinicians proposed to perform the operation and put the special chip – implant as a tiny organic film into the brain. The implant itself does not cure epilepsy but can prevent attacks, giving the little girl a chance for development and future. The cost of the operation is 53 422 USD, but taking into account additional examinations and special nutrition for the girl, at UBB we collect 1 975 000 UAH.
Now Eva is 8 months old, and her parents have never seen her smile, interest in toys and the world around her. Let's help little Eve smile and discover the wonderful world around!
