Let's save the eyes of the military together!
We created the #MOD project to provide mobile ophthalmic care to both military personnel who are unable to leave the place of permanent deployment of their military unit for a long time and receive a qualified examination to detect visual diseases, treat old injuries or fresh injuries sustained during combat missions or due to concussions and combat stress, and civilians who are unable to leave the frontline area and do not receive timely qualified assistance.
Our Foundation has a unique experience, as we have been working with the military since 2014, which allows us to obtain the necessary permits for accommodation and accommodation during each field mission. We are also partially equipped with the necessary modern equipment, the list of which is almost as long as that of inpatient ophthalmology offices.
However, in order to make the missions regular, we need sustainable funding to cover the costs of the iCare pneumotonometer. And to further scale this project and make eye examinations even better and more comfortable, we need to additionally purchase an ophthalmoscope and a wall-mounted sign projector.
Why is it so necessary?
An ophthalmoscope allows for a general examination of the eye, including an assessment of the fundus environment and its vessels and to detect the degree of fundus changes, the appearance and examination of pathological changes, such as optic nerve tip entrapment or retinal edema, as well as to analyze the position of foreign bodies and the field of inflammation.
Currently, we use an ophthalmoscope provided by the founders, but it no longer performs some of the functions (because the model is outdated) and therefore we really need our own.
The wall-mounted sign projector can be used in environments where there is not a large enough room for examinations, as it is more compact than a traditional sign projector and can also be installed later in a converted mobile office (i.e., in a special machine).
Additionally, it is better because it has a larger number of visual tests, which allows us to determine much more accurately the visual acuity, the presence of visual defects and their degree. We need consumables for the iCare pneumotonometer to avoid diseases that can potentially be transmitted from one patient to another, because the pneumotonometer measures eye pressure using a conditional needle, which must be individualized for each patient.
Given that the consumables are sold in 100 pieces, we need at least 200-300 needles for one mission. In addition, the new tonometer will allow us to check the pressure in the eye in a less stressful way, with a more convenient device, which is very important when receiving patients, both military and civilian.
All these things that allow us to conduct a full ophthalmological examination and support patients during their treatment after the examination are quite expensive, so we really need your support to continue making regular visits and saving the eyesight of military and civilians!
