"I have always believed in my husband – Nazar. In every movement, in every sound he tried to make after death had nearly taken him. And he believed too. He believed so strongly that he managed to survive an injury that few return from", notes Victoria, Nazar's wife.
Kaygorodov Nazar Yevheniiovych, born 23.08.2000, call sign "Romeo", 66th Brigade, reconnaissance sapper. In April 2022, he took up arms, even though he had never served before. How could he stay home when the country was on fire? He trained in Desna, went to battle. And on July 10, 2022, near Bakhmut, he found himself in the middle of hellish enemy artillery fire – and then, silence.
"For two days, I didn’t know where he was. For two days, I was haunted by terrible thoughts. His friends were silent. They didn’t want to speak because they thought Nazar hadn’t survived. When they found him, his condition was horrifying—his face was unrecognizable due to wounds, and shrapnel had destroyed his skull. But he was still breathing.
He was evacuated under heavy shelling. Doctors fought for him in Kurakhove, Dnipro, and Kyiv. Nazar survived. Even though doctors gave him almost no chance.
Some time later, at a rehabilitation center, we met a medic – a man named Ihor, call sign "Tim". As we talked, we suddenly realized he was the one who had evacuated Nazar from that hell. He checked his records and confirmed it: on July 10, 2022, under shelling, he had pulled my husband out.
That was the moment I once again realized how many people had fought for Nazar’s life – his comrades, doctors, evacuation teams. Thanks to them and to God, Nazar survived. When he finally opened his eyes, he wasn’t really there. His gaze was empty, unmoving. I spoke to him, showed him photos of our son, drawings – anything to remind him: you are alive, you are with us.
And Nazar came back. He started learning to live from scratch. First – to eat. Then – to say the letter "а". But that letter became a cry of pain.
"A-aaaaa" echoed through the hospital halls every night. His brain sent signals, but his body didn’t respond. We walked through this pain together.
On October 24, 2022, he had surgery – doctors implanted a titanium plate in his skull. And on November 7, 2022, his rehabilitation journey began. Nazar was completely immobile. His body was like stone, every muscle in spasm. Turning him, tilting him – it was incredibly difficult. Just to bend one arm, you had to strain his whole body. Even the strongest rehab specialists were exhausted after working with him.
But Nazar fought. And he made progress! He learned to hold his head up, to move his arms a little, to sit for a few minutes without support. His speech improved".
What can Nazar do now?
-
Sit – he can stay in a wheelchair 3–4 hours, twice a day?
-
Hold his head up – his neck was weak, but now he holds it straight.
-
Feel his entire body – he can move his arms and legs, and spasticity is gradually decreasing.
-
Speak more confidently – not just words, but full sentences, thoughts.
-
Lift his arms and legs – partially, but his muscles are responding.
-
Perform back-strengthening exercises – to learn to sit independently.
Today, Nazar cannot walk yet, but he feels everything—he knows he has a chance to stand on his own again. To make this possible, he needs specialized rehabilitation at the "Modrychi" center—intensive and professional. This center has everything necessary to help him take his next step toward recovery.
What still needs to be restored?
-
Walking – Nazar can’t stand or walk yet, but doctors say it’s possible.
-
Full use of hands – spasticity still prevents normal finger movement.
-
Independence in daily life – right now, he relies on me for everything: moving, bathing, dressing.
-
Fine motor skills – learning to grasp objects, hold a spoon, write.
"We have already overcome so much. But to move forward, we need help – so Nazar can return not just to life, but to movement.
He is only 24. We have a son!
Nazar didn’t break. He has strength and an incredible will to live. And he will do everything to reclaim his body. Support him on this journey!".
