Heart for infant

Due to limited funding, Odessa Regional Children's Hospital is asking for help in acquiring the drug "Oktapleks", which is required for operations on a heart of new-born babies. In Ukraine, 4500-5000 children are born with congenital heart disease. If the surgery on a heart isn’t performed in the first months of life, a baby dies.

The baby is just born and life presents him with the harsh lessons of survival. More than half of children with congenital heart disease die during the first year of life without surgery.

The congenital heart disease is one of the most widely-spread fetal anomalies with the newborns. In the structure of infant mortality rate of neonatal CHD take the first place. After birth, 50-75% of children die before they are one year old without surgery, particularly evident in the first months of life, and 25% – in the age of one year.

The heart surgery is not possible without the drug "Oktapleks", which is designed for stopping the bleeding. Infants have a poor blood clotting, and during heart surgery the child may die from blood loss without the use of "Oktapleks"
