On February 27, 2026, the project “A Chance for Kirill to Grow Up Pain-Free” was posted on the dobro.ua platform of the International Charitable Foundation “UBB,” with a total goal of 350,500.00 UAH to fund the treatment of Kirill Pentsak at the Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialized Hospital. The goal of the project was to raise funds for a boy with a complex diagnosis: “Consequences of hypoxic-hemorrhagic damage to the central nervous system and ventriculitis. Post-inflammatory hydrocephalus, diffuse periventricular encephalomalacia with cyst formation—multilocular hydrocephalus. Condition following numerous cerebrospinal fluid shunt and endoscopic procedures. Movement disorder syndrome. History of neonatal seizures. Development of structural epilepsy? Psychomotor developmental delay. “Ventriculitis.” This condition posed a direct threat to the child’s life and required brain surgery. To save Kirill, on June 25, 2026, doctors performed a complex neurosurgical procedure. The child is currently recovering from the surgeries.
Specialized medical supplies were used to perform the neurosurgical procedure, ensuring the safe and effective completion of the operation:
- The Strata valve regulates the outflow of cerebrospinal fluid from the brain, helping to maintain safe intracranial pressure.
- A set of antibiotic-coated ventricular catheters—specialized catheters inserted into the brain’s ventricles to drain excess cerebrospinal fluid. The antibacterial coating significantly reduces the risk of postoperative infections.
- Stylet (23 cm)—an auxiliary surgical instrument used to precisely guide a catheter or other components of a shunt system to the desired location during surgery.
- The non-invasive patient tracker allows computer navigation to precisely determine the position of instruments during neurosurgical procedures without causing additional tissue trauma.
- Tracer—helps the surgeon identify anatomical landmarks and precisely align MRI or CT data with the actual position of brain structures during surgery.
- Navigation tracer probe—allows the surgeon to determine the site of intervention with maximum precision, avoid vital brain structures, and minimize the risk of complications.
- Ventricular reservoir, lower inlet, 12 mm, with ventricular catheter (small, 23 cm)—implanted for temporary or long-term access to the brain’s ventricles. It allows for the drainage of excess cerebrospinal fluid, monitoring of intracranial pressure, and, if necessary, the administration of medications or collection of fluid for analysis without the need for repeat surgical procedures.
These supplies were critically necessary for performing the surgery and for subsequent monitoring of the patient’s condition.
A financial report is submitted detailing all funds used.
