Baby Nikita was born on 27.07.16. The child was welcomed and long-awaited. Parents went a long and exhausting way to finally see the two treasured stripes on the test. Family happiness knew no bounds! However, the challenges have only just begun. At 19 weeks, the threat of pregnancy loss, emergency surgery, conservation happened. Before delivery, the mother did not leave the hospital. It was scary and hard, but the hope that very soon it would all be over did not leave. The son was born at the 36th week by emergency cesarean section.

After a couple of hours, it became clear that something was wrong with the baby’s health, he was very weak, there was no sucking reflex, arms and legs hung. Diagnoses rained. It seemed that it couldn’t be any worse. A month in the hospital, the plenty of drugs in the body of 2200 gr. The kid did not cry but simply lay quietly, taking as a given another dropper, an already familiar injection.
With great efforts, the mother managed to teach Nikita to swallow. This was the first victory!

The baby and mom were discharged home. But, after 3 months, Nikita did not begin to hold his head, turn over, lean on his legs, as all his peers did. The diagnosis was made - SMA - spinal muscular atrophy. A terrible verdict that takes away the ability of children to move, and then breathe. Fear, horror, despair - it is difficult to put in words the whole range of emotions that has swept the parents.
Fortunately, the genetic analysis did not confirm the preliminary diagnosis. However, neurologists persistently continued to rewrite the lines of diagnoses, including SMA and recommended that mom reconcile that her child could never keep his head, sit, walk.
But parents were not going to give up. Having set the goal by any means to get the son out of deep disability, they began to look for opportunities. Nikita underwent three courses of treatment in China. At the age of 1 year and 1 month, the child turned over for the first time on his own!

Now the boy confidently holds his head, sits, crawls, begins to walk. He became emotionally active, often smiling. It is hard to believe that three years ago the child was not given a chance, he was hopeless, and now his physical abilities have reached a satisfactory state. But only the first words “mother”, “yes”, “give” are still not happening. With the support of UBB donors, in May Nikita has completed a rehabilitation course at the Center Priority. The child began to understand the speech addressed to him, onomatopoeia appeared. The kid shows amazing results! For its consolidation and development, courses should be systematic and regular. The next rehabilitation is in October. Help Nikita to reach the goal!

Earlier at UBB, we already raised funds for Nikita's treatment. View the previous project you can see on the link.
