Polina's way

In 2017, Natalia gave birth to her daughter Polina. She arrived prematurely at 32-33 weeks of pregnancy, weighing 2100 grams and measuring 45 centimeters. Despite being born early, Polina cried immediately – scoring 7 on the Apgar scale. The next day, she was transferred to Kyiv Regional Children's Hospital, where Natalia spent three long weeks by her side.

After being discharged, the family cherished every moment. "Those were the four happiest months of our lives – we rejoiced at every smile, every new movement and sound she made", Natalia recalls.

But during a routine check-up at five months old, a neurologist noticed developmental delays. That marked the beginning of a new journey – a fight for Polina’s health and future. The final diagnosis came only at 1 year and 10 months: cerebral palsy, spastic diplegia. "Those three letters changed everything – our life split into "before" and "after", her mother shares.

Since then, rehabilitation has become a core part of their life. The family searched for specialists, clinics, and therapy opportunities. "Even the war didn’t stop us – because as parents, the most important thing is to give Polina a chance at a full life", Natalia says. Every new step, every small achievement is a little victory for Polina and a big hope for her loved ones.

Polina is a bright and sociable child. Her cheerful voice fills the house with joy, and her smile warms everyone around. "I often imagine her running with friends at the playground, going to school, laughing, playing – just living. And this is my greatest, most heartfelt wish – for her to live a full and happy life, just like any other child", her mother says.

Right now, Polina urgently needs regular rehabilitation. It is the key to one day seeing her take her first independent step. Every bit of support brings her closer to that dream.
